The bombing campaign has killed over 6,000 Afghans. The chaos of the war has contributed to the death of 20,000 other Afghans due to starvation and exposure to subzero winter weather. U.N. and Red Cross workers were killed by the bombing. Food and supplies were destroyed. International aid could not be delivered.

Wanton destruction will create justified bitterness. More great links in the chain of hatred are being forged.

And for what? The Western energy companies' greed for Middle East oil has created and driven this conflict. For the greedy only the oil matters. Ultimately, the American people mean no more to the greedy than the Afghan people or anyone else. We, the vast majority on this planet, are being forced to suffer for the energy companies' refusal to abandon fossil fuels as the primary energy source. The suffering of the Afghan people is but one more link forged by this mindless pursuit of oil profits.
