View from Bethlehem
Palestine, the Middle East. 2001
The hole in the wall is in a house in Beit Jala (the western most part of
Greater Bethlehem, one might say)
Beit Jala (west, mostly Muslim), Bethlehem,
center (50/50), and Beit Sahour (east, mostly Christian), together make up
one town we in the U.S. think of as Bethlehem. Through the hole one can see
Gilo, a very large Israeli settlement outside of the southern city
limit of Jerusalem. Gilo is constantly gobbling up Palestinian territory.
Palestinian houses on the northern edge of Bethlehem are constant targets of
the Israeli army.
